Intensive course ski mountaineering Rotondo

Onwards and upwards! (CH) | 3 days

Have you already gained experience on classic ski tours and would you now like to tackle high alpine summit goals? This course offers you the chance for a well-founded introduction to the world of the 3000 and 4000 meter peaks!

  • Tour planning in the high mountains

  • Crevasse and self-rescue

You can plan simple ski mountaineering tours yourself and, depending on your personal condition, take part in medium to demanding guided ski mountaineering tours, e.g. five 4000m peaks, Finsteraarhorn 4274m or Dufourspitze 4634m


Piste: very confident on skis; Powder snow: solid prior experience; Terrain: mostly steep terrain


Duration from 5 to 7 hours, up to approx. 1,200 vertical meters, approx. 300 vertical meters per hour.

The offer is held in German. Therefore, a basic understanding of German is important. Our mountain guides have a basic knowledge of English and can provide the necessary information in English. Often there are helpful guests on the tours and courses who are happy to help with the translation.

Day 1Individual arrival at Andermatt, welcome by the mountain guide in the MAMMUT Store and discussion of the schedule. Ascent to the Rotondo Hut at 2,570 meters, with time to refresh your knowledge of emergency equipment and avalanche theory along the way. (Distance: 8 km. Hiking time: 4 hours. Ascent: 1,000 vertical meters).

Day 2-3The peaks around the Rotondo Hut offer an ideal training area. You will be able to put theoretical knowledge directly into practice and in a short time you will acquire knowledge about the topic of alpine skitouring. The options are the Pizzo Lucendro at 2,962 meters, Pizzo Rodondo at 3,192 meters or the circuit over the Lecki Pass and Mutten Glacier on the Stozigen Firsten 2,752 meters with a great final run down to Realp. (Distance: 5-8 km; Hiking time: 4-6 hours; Ascent: 1,000 vertical meters).
